What happened last weekend was.. I attended a basic photography course where the ’students’ were taught various tactics to handle a dSLR, forbidden angles, different modes for different occasions, etc.

I must say I benefited a alot from the course (I must make sure my pictures get praises from my sister.) because I realised some of the advice given by experts simply cannot be found in the book. In fact, those advice were given in such a way that it encourages me to take more pictures, to explore more about the camera as well as to work harder to get extra cash for other lenses. Wuakakakak….

Anyway, below are some of the pictures taken when we were given about an hour to submit a photograph for the class competition. I didn’t win anything because other dSLR holders were just so brilliant! I must improve!!

But, a fact is a fact. I have to face it.

I would say 6 May was a historical day for Journalism students (Class of May 2008). You see, throughout these years, we have never attended any dinner together (all of us!). Never. The closest was a dinner at New Paris Restaurant after our internship. That was the only occasion that I could recall where I see a blend of JR1 and JR2 friends.

For us (at least, most of us), JR1 is JR1; and JR2 is JR2. No strings attached. No connection whatsoever. These statements can be easily proved when you take a peep during our lecture. The JR1s will occupy the left (or right side, it doesn’t matter), whereas the JR2s will take the opposite side.

Different tutorial groups were also broken down into smaller groups. Take for example JR2. There were 23 of us and there were obviously a few groups of people. The Indians. The typical Chinese. The talkative. And the loudspeakers. (There were a few other groups but it is not convenient for me to name them here. If you’re interested, you may ask me personally)

These sad incidents made me believe that a farewell dinner is NOT possible, no matter what. Even if it is possible, only half of the students will turn up.

I was so wrong.

In fact, all attended a farewell dinner at Flaming Steamboat Restaurant at Sunway, right after our very last paper. We had a great time taking pictures, telling stories, sharing dreams. I thought for a moment, “Wouldn’t it be better if we were these close all these while?” I guess not. If we were these close.. I don’t think we would even cherish the moments we had during our farewell dinner. Aaa… those precious moments.

Anyway, we had successfully organise a dinner and I thought it would be great for me to share some of the wonderful shots with you. For those who are still studying, “love your coursemates!!”

Just in case you have not heard of the Tzu Chi foundation, below is an abstract taken from their website:

The origin of Tzu Chi foundation in Taiwan
In 1966, Venerable Master Cheng Yen founded the Buddhist Tze Chi Merits Society in Hualien with only thirty housewives as her followers. Their objective was to provide relief and assistance to the poor. Today this charitable society has developed globally into Tzu Chi Foundation with its mission of charity, medicine, education, humanitarianism, international disaster relief, bone marrow donation, environmental protection and community volunteerism.

We were there quite early to avoid traffic jams and huge crowd, but to my surprise many of the visitors were already there at about 8.30am. Thousands of people were there to witness the event which, in my opinion, very very grand.

We had to queue in a row of four in order to move to the centre where the sculptures were placed. I am not sure how many individuals were allowed to go at one time, but I was very lucky I got a place at the main sculpture.

There were other interesting events such as talks given by volunteers and medical aids.

It was really a grand event and I am glad I was there to give my fullest moral support. Hmm!

The trip to the tower was very tiring. We walked all the way from Raja Chulan station to Jalan Lim Foo Yong; then to Jalan P. Ramlee; then to Jalan Puncak. We then took a shuttle Mercedes Benz to the base of the KL Tower. Basically, we were there to take pictures of the KL from a distance as well as to have fun while waiting for my high school buddy who happened to be attending an interview at the Ambank Leadership Centre. Upon reaching the base, we went to the main hall, check-out their latest events and off to the park.
