PhotobucketA few weeks ago, while Mum and I were spending some time at the Jonker Street, we saw a Ru-yi at an exhibition hall.

Mum was adoring it. She wanted to buy but for once, she hesitated. We made a few rounds at the exhibition hall, and we went back to the same Ru-yi.

I asked the sales attendant and she said the profits from the exhibition will be donated a Buddhist organisation. I also asked it they have a pair of the Ru-yi knots but she said there’s only one left.

I could sense that Mum liked the knot, so I bought it for her (yes, without second thought).

Geez.

According to cultureheritage.org, Ru-yi was believed to bring its owner happiness ans good luck. A Ru-yi symbolisis power and magic. It was considered a lucky item, the owner of which would have enjoyed much happiness. The uses of Ru-yi knots are many and it is easy to tie this knot. It can be combined with other types of knots for larger and more elaborate decorations.
