Photo hunt: I Love Cheongsams
November 17th 2007 by pelfy in Photo HuntThis week’s theme is rather fexible as participants are free to post anything they love. Hiak. As for me, I will be showing you some of my tailor-made cheongsams. Yes, the Chinese outfit. I love them. Very much (=
I love them since I was young. In this post, you’ll also see 2 mini Cheongsams my sister and I wore when my sister was seven and me, three. Haha!! Very surprisingly, my Mom is still keeping them (=

My tailor-made cheongsams

Me in the red Cheongsam

Our mini red Cheongsams

Our mini pink Cheongsams

Me in the mini pink Cheongsam

Me in the orange Cheongsam (four years old)

Pelfy, one, during Chinese New Year.
The qípáo (旗袍) or ch’i-p’ao, also known as the cheongsam (長衫) or mandarin gown, is a body-hugging (after Shanghai modification) dress for women in China originating from the Manchus, modernized and improved in Shanghai - mandarintouch.com
I am for sure not the typical kind of Chinese girl, but I don’t know when I am so deeply in love with Cheongsam. Every year without fail, I will go to the same seamstress and she will do the measurement. I will also draft the patterns for her (so that she’ll sew what I want. Ha!)
Most of my cheongsams are knee-length, one blouse and one skirt. The type of cloth I usually choose is the slippery type. I also choose my own buttons. Right now, I am still thinking of making a black cheongsam with some red little flowers on it. Ha! (Definitely not to be worn during Chinese New Year as the Chinese believes that black colour symbolises ‘bad luck’. Ha!
Meanwhile, have fun!

I have never wore a cheongsam before but they are quite pretty, very fashionable. I like the red one from the second photo - very nice.

I love to see my Chinese friends and other people wear this. I have one. A gift from my friend. Sometimes I am in awe when I see ladies wear these with ease.
You should try that black and red combination. I love and have seen that. It’s beautiful!
Thanks for the visit.

That’s the tragedy of my life… I love 旗袍 but my Mediterranean body doesn’t agree with them (ie. too much breast, too much butt). Oh well
Mind you, I did try a few when living in China!
